Basic Instincts… Whatever They Are
\nA little black dress. A white button-up shirt. A pair of black pumps that you can actually walk more than 10 steps in. A leather jacket that makes you feel like a rocker chic and can take you from day to night.<\/p>\n
There are lists upon lists upon lists upon lists of \u2018Wardrobe Basics Every Woman Should Have\u201d or \u201c10 Articles of Clothing Every Woman Needs\u201d out there. I spent years looking for that \u201clittle black dress\u201d that I could wear to every occasion imaginable. After all, if every magazine and every fashion site and every forum said I needed one – I probably did need one, right?<\/p>\n
WRONG. These lists are so restrictive. It\u2019s a \u2018one-size-fits-all\u2019 prescription method to fashion, which, in my opinion, isn\u2019t really fashion at all. It might be good for making you look basic and uninspiring, if that\u2019s what you\u2019re going for. There\u2019s so much more to fashion than just that, though! Maybe black makes you look washed out – so get a little pink dress, instead. Who said every woman needs to have a pair of heels, let alone black pumps, at all? Rock those oxfords in a three-piece suit. Have some fun with it! You\u2019ll make mistakes and wear an outfit that a few years down the road, you\u2019ll cringe at, but what\u2019s life without a few of those cringe moments.<\/p>\n
